The Grand Cœur Latin is located in the 5th arrondissement, a stone’s throw from the Jardin du Luxembourg and a few minutes’ walk from the Panthéon. The street is pedestrianized, almost silent, which is surprising in a district known for its student bustle.

You open the door and the first thing that catches the eye is the arcades. They set the rhythm of the ground floor, a nod to the Abbey of Cluny college that stood here in the 13th century. Beneath your feet, history goes back even further. During the renovation carried out in 2022, excavations uncovered columns, pottery, and remains dating back to Roman times. It is this ancient basement that gave the spa its character.

Going down the stairs, you discover a 15-meter pool set in a bathhouse atmosphere, dimmed, almost silent at the time when the first swimmers are doing their laps. The hammam is right next door. Access is included in the room rate, open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., with no reservation required. Angelica, the spa manager, also offers massages and treatments there for those who want to extend the break.

The rooms are spread over seven floors, each associated with one of the house’s four mineral shades: clay green, storm blue, sienna red, ochre. In the hallways, floral and animal-themed wallpaper recalls medieval illuminations. Once the bedroom door is closed, the decor changes style: clean lines, pastel tones, white linens. The bathrooms play the fir-green card, with a walk-in shower or bathtub, and Terre de Mars products with argan oil and rosemary. Underfoot, the carpet is thick, which remains quite rare in Paris hotels.

In the room, there is no complimentary bottle of mineral water, nor a coffee machine. The hotel has chosen a Kusmi tea tray and a kettle, a choice that will please lovers of herbal infusions more than morning coffee drinkers in a hurry.

From breakfast time, head to the breakfast room, dressed in burnt orange and sage green tones inspired by the illuminations of the monks of Saint-Sever Abbey. The buffet, served from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., offers pastries, scrambled eggs, cured meats, brie, and honey harvested locally. When the weather allows, a few tables are moved out into the open-air patio, under the arcades, to have coffee facing the Paris sky.

The hotel has two elevators, but each serves different floors. It is a detail best clarified at reception upon arrival, to avoid waiting in front of the wrong elevator with your luggage.

In the late afternoon, the bar takes over under the arcades, overlooking the patio. Classic cocktails and Kusmi teapots are served there, accompanied by a platter or a few sweet bites, until 10 p.m.

The Latin Quarter, just beyond the door, keeps the scent of old Paris: the Sorbonne, the Arènes de Lutèce, the Jardin du Luxembourg two minutes away, Shakespeare and Company bookstore a little farther on. Luxembourg station on the RER B, a five-minute walk away, provides a direct link to Gare du Nord and Charles de Gaulle Airport.

One last tip: ask for a room facing the patio rather than the street. It is completely silent there, even on a Saturday evening in the Latin Quarter.
