Mom'Art Hôtel is tucked away between the Basilica and Abbesses square, a stone’s throw from Anvers station, in a part of Montmartre where tourists become rarer once you pass the boulevard. The façade is almost spotted by chance, while looking for the shade of a doorway.

As soon as you push the door open, the first thing you notice is the silence. The street stays outside. A paved patio opens up at the center of the building, planted with trees, and you quickly understand that the house was designed around this courtyard rather than around a simple lobby.

At reception, guests are often welcomed by the manager herself, or by Tahar, who has been at the hotel for years. You can tell that the Sellam family, which has owned the place since the 1970s, is committed to welcoming each guest as one would at home. The suitcases are carried up quickly, the conversation lasts a little longer.

As you go up the floors, each of the twenty-five rooms tells a different story. One room is called the Atelier, another Couture, and yet another bears the name Hermès and displays leather goods and fabrics from the Parisian house on the walls. You’ll notice the Marshall speaker sitting on the dresser, the Nespresso machine placed near the minibar, and the Hypsom bedding, thick, almost too comfortable to get up early. Some rooms, especially those named the Bourgeoises or the Môme, remain compact, designed more for a night or two as a couple than for a long family stay with several suitcases. You sleep well there, in a tighter format that feels more like a Paris pied-à-terre than a classic hotel suite.

In the bathroom, the shower surprises with its size, almost disproportionate to the rest of the room. Robes and slippers are waiting on the bed.

On the ground floor, late in the afternoon, the sauna and gym are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., at no extra charge. People stop by after a climb up to Sacré-Cœur, legs heavy, before heading back lighter to the Artiste bar.

The dimly lit bar serves cocktails and a wine list designed for taking one’s time. The Le Patio restaurant, beneath a glass roof, is run by chef Gregory Cohen, who sometimes comes by to present his dishes himself between services. It should be noted that the dining room is mainly used for private bookings, for a group dinner or a birthday; guests passing through for a simple solo dinner or a meal for two would do well to check same-evening availability rather than assuming it.

In the morning, breakfast is served in the patio as soon as the weather allows, with a generous buffet, pastries, fresh juices, and attentive table service. It is often the moment when you meet Tahar again, who asks how the night went.

One tip for what follows: ask reception for the hand-drawn map of the neighborhood, the one that avoids the crowds gathered in front of Sacré-Cœur at peak times and takes you straight to the bakery on Rue Lepic, open from 7 a.m.
