The district long lived from these wood trades, brought by craftsmen who came to settle from the provinces; the Boutet house still bears the name.

Outside, the neighborhood has lost none of its lively, local character. Le Marais is just a few streets away, as is the Opéra Bastille, and Gare de Lyon is within walking distance for anyone not afraid of a fifteen-minute stroll.

One last tip before heading out: the breakfast buffet fills up quickly between 8:30 and 9:30. For a quiet table, it is better to go down as soon as the bar opens.
