Presentation
La Maison Favart, on Place Boieldieu in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, takes its name from a couple whom the 18th century made almost legendary among lovers of opéra comique: Charles-Simon Favart and his wife Justine, an actress whom Paris nicknamed Mademoiselle Chantilly. It is said that Charles-Simon fell under her spell one evening during a performance. Three centuries later, their story still lives on in the walls of this 39-room-and-suite hotel, directly opposite the theatre that bears their name.
From the lobby, the tone is set. Upholstered armchairs, exposed stone, chandeliers and gilded mirrors, a palette of almond green and powder pink that evokes more of a boudoir than the lobby of a standard hotel. Here you will meet a team that moves effortlessly from French to English, Spanish or Arabic, and that seems to remember the faces that return.
Upstairs, the theatrical spirit continues. Silk, satin, 18th-century-inspired furnishings and contemporary touches answer one another from room to room. Categories range from the more intimate Classic to the Deluxe with a view of the Opéra Comique, and up to family duplex suites for stays with several people. At the very top, La Petite Maison brings together two apartments via a private staircase: two bedrooms, two bathrooms (one with a whirlpool bath), a fireplace nook for dining with a few guests, and from the living room, Place Boieldieu and the Opéra Comique are on permanent display.
In the basement, beneath stone vaults, the spa surprises with its ambition for a hotel of this size. The lap pool, clad in mosaic, comes alive with a small waterfall and a few water jets. In the adjoining room, a sauna warms gently, a hydromassage bed awaits tired backs, and the fitness room remains open at all hours. The space feels more like a townhouse than a grand hotel: it is better to book your slot the day before, early in the morning or at the end of the day, to enjoy the pool almost alone. Some guests opt for full private use, an hour just for themselves.
As for dining, the house does not offer a permanent gourmet restaurant. Breakfast, served buffet-style (at an extra charge), is taken as a quiet moment before heading out to explore the neighborhood. The address prefers to direct guests to nearby tables, just steps from the Grands Boulevards and Galeries Lafayette, rather than keep them within the same walls for every meal. In the evening, a bar still allows you to have a drink on site before heading back out for dinner.
La Maison Favart is located between the Quatre-Septembre and Richelieu-Drouot metro stations, about a twenty-minute walk from the Louvre. The Opéra Garnier, Place Vendôme and the Grands Boulevards are very close by. The neighborhood mixes jewelers, performance venues and small wine bars that stay open late.
One last tip, for a noise-free Sunday morning: ask for a room facing Place Boieldieu rather than the street; the view of the Opéra Comique is well worth the slight extra charge.
Summary of some positive reviews read on the Web
- Arrived late one evening, welcomed by a receptionist named Fatima. Genuine smile, no scripted speech, just helpful.
- Rue Marivaux, quiet in the evening even though you are just steps from the Opéra Comique and a twenty-minute walk from the Louvre.
- Room upgraded without asking, clear view from the sixth floor. Firm bedding, everything worked, nothing to report.
- Breakfast served buffet-style, quick service even on a busy Sunday. Decent coffee, enough choice not to linger.
- Basement pool tested late in the afternoon after a day of walking in July. Water at a good temperature, no one else there at that time.
