Maison Mère is located on Rue Mayran, a pedestrian street that is surprisingly quiet in the 9th arrondissement, between Square Montholon and Cadet metro station. Twenty meters farther on, the street changes pace and joins the bustle of the Grands Boulevards. From Gare du Nord or Gare de l'Est, it is a fifteen-minute walk.

Push open the door, and you first come upon a coworking space adjoining reception. Power outlets everywhere, large sofas, a big table to set down a laptop or spread out files. You’ll see as many hotel guests as neighborhood residents coming to work quietly between appointments. No one really pays attention to who sleeps here and who doesn’t.

Against the lounge walls are paintings, a 1970s lamp, a chair that looks as if it came straight from a flea market. Everything is for sale, and everything changes with the seasons: what you notice today may well be gone the next time.

The 51 rooms and 2 suites are divided into six formats. The most compact, the Alvéole, measures just 12 square meters: a bed, a vintage video game console placed in a corner, and a bathroom that leaves little room to hesitate in your movements. For a solo night or a quick stopover, it is more than enough. With two suitcases and a desire to spread out a bit, it is better to choose the Parisienne (18 m2, parquet flooring, sometimes a balcony) or one of the attic suites.

On the upper floors, the corridors are narrow and soundproofing remains imperfect: you can sometimes hear a heel on the parquet in the corridor or a conversation in the neighboring room. This is easily arranged at booking by requesting a high floor or a courtyard-facing room, which avoids most of the issue.

Each room has its own decor: thrifted furniture, patterned fabrics, a lamp unlike any other on the floor above. The Reine Mère suite, under the eaves, adds a private hammam and a dressing room. The Crème de la Crème, meanwhile, spans 45 m2 and can accommodate up to six people, convenient for a weekend with family or friends.

Breakfast is served in the dining room from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.: a buffet of fresh, local products, pastries, charcuterie, hot dishes. It can also be brought up to the room, à la carte, for those who prefer to prolong the night under the duvet.

On the ground floor, the Nectar restaurant changes face depending on the time of day. At lunchtime, simple bistronomic cuisine, fresh and unfussy. In the evening, the room darkens, the lights dim a notch, and the menu becomes more elaborate, in several courses. The cocktail bar takes over alongside it, with a selection that changes with the seasons.

On Thursdays, a live concert enlivens the bar from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. On other evenings, temporary exhibitions or themed events set the pace on the ground floor, and neighborhood residents sometimes stop in for a drink without having booked a room.

One last practical detail: the breakfast buffet empties quickly after 9:30 a.m. and closes exactly at 10:00 a.m. For late risers, it is better to request the in-room tray the night before.
