La Chambre du Marais is located on rue des Archives, a stone’s throw from rue des Francs-Bourgeois, in that Haut-Marais triangle stretching from Temple to Place de la République. A little farther on, the Marché des Enfants Rouges has been opening its aisles since 1610. Place des Vosges is not far either; a few minutes’ walk is enough.

From the moment you enter, a scent of Turkish rose, Ceylon cinnamon, and tonka bean welcomes the visitor. The door itself has character, almost like a sign before you even step inside.

Nineteen rooms make up the house, each with its own color palette, designed by decorator Philippe Jégou and Aurore Vachette de Lesquen. The fabrics are thick, the materials noble, and the furnishings carefully chosen. Categories range from the double room starting at 15m2 to the 35m2 Deluxe Suite, designed for two adults and two children. Some rooms overlook the square du Temple, and on the top floor, the attic Junior Suites filter the light differently, softer, almost hushed. A word on the entry-level rooms: at 15m2, they remain modest for those seeking space, but their thoughtful layout more than makes up for the surface area.

In the morning, breakfast is served in the dining room or in the room, by request. There is an extra charge, and some find it a bit expensive for what it is, but the made-to-order omelet and the endlessly flowing coffee are worth it for those who prefer not to go out looking for a bakery.

In the evening, the ground floor changes face. The lobby becomes the Bar de la Veuve, dedicated to the Veuve Clicquot house, open from noon to two in the morning, with a selection of champagnes and a soundtrack curated by DJ DraMa. You’ll meet hotel guests as well as neighborhood regulars, who have come simply for a drink. The deep armchairs, the subdued lighting—you quickly want to linger. Those staying on the lower floors who are light sleepers should note that the activity lasts late: the rooms have double glazing that mutes a good deal of the noise, but asking for a higher floor remains the safest reflex.

Reception remains open 24 hours a day, with a safe, luggage storage, and a multilingual team able to arrange a visit or track down last-minute tickets. Wi-Fi is free, dry cleaning is available, and the air conditioning is individually controlled room by room.

Around it, the neighborhood has plenty going for it. Designer boutiques, art galleries, lively terraces on rue des Francs-Bourgeois—everything is within walking distance. Several metro stations are just a few minutes away, making it easy to travel throughout Paris.

If you walk through the door around midnight, take a look at the bar before heading up to your room. DJ DraMa’s playlist is worth the detour, even for ten minutes.
