The Hôtel Zora has settled just a few meters from Rue Montorgueil, in this corner of the 2nd arrondissement where the Sentier district meets Les Halles. The street is bustling from late morning onward: bakeries, greengrocers, wine shops, terraces spilling onto the sidewalk. People walk as much as they wander, squeezed between two stalls.
The entrance is modest, like the number of rooms: around ten, spread over five floors. Access is not suitable for people with reduced mobility, something to keep in mind before booking. For everyone else, the stairs are climbed several times a day, which has never killed anyone in a neighborhood where everything is done on foot anyway.
Going up the floors, the rooms focus on functionality. Standard or superior, between fourteen and eighteen square meters, each with a private bathroom, television, hair dryer, and provided toiletries. Nothing ostentatious, but everything essential is there, in a district where square meter prices are high.
Breakfast is not included. Instead, head out in the morning to one of the bakeries on Rue Montorgueil, thirty seconds from the door. Croissant in hand, you can continue to a café or straight to the metro.
As for transport, Sentier station on line 3 is less than a two-minute walk away. The Centre Pompidou can be reached in about ten minutes on foot, the Louvre in a quarter of an hour, and the Opéra in the same time. Notre-Dame takes about twenty minutes. Several Vélib stations round out the picture for those who prefer to pedal.
As the day goes on, the neighborhood changes pace. Shops close one by one, the terraces fill up, and Rue Montorgueil takes on the feel of a village festival in the heart of Paris.
One tip for the first morning: stop by the bakery on the corner before eight o’clock. The best pastries go quickly.
